Current market situation influences second quarter 2022 at Veiling Rhein-Maas

"Market situation for cut flowers in line with previous year's level, situation for potted plants remains tight"

Overall, Veiling Rhein-Maas achieved a product turnover of € 238 million in the first half of 2022, which is a slight decrease compared to the previous year. In addition to the shortage of skilled workers, the current market situation is also influenced by cost increases in various areas, for example, in the energy sector.

Developments in cut flowers and potted plants
The market situation for cut flowers was satisfactory in the second quarter and volumes were in line with the previous year's level. For potted plants, especially for the seasonal range of bedding and balcony plants, perennials, and nursery stock, the situation remains tight. Due to the market situation at the end of May, the measure was taken that outdoor potted plants may only be delivered in A1 quality for the time being in order to avoid an oversupply. On the other hand, the sales of indoor products remained stable.

More news: Successful roll-out of the new customer portal
Their new customer portal was successfully activated at the end of June. "Our customers have access to the Clock pre-sales as well as to the Webshop and now only have to log in once. In addition, the transaction overview can be viewed there. Even after the successful roll-out, the functions are constantly being optimized so that we can offer our customers a faster and more targeted way of working," said Günther Esser and Cees Hoekstra. "We would like to express a big thank you to all those involved in the development of the customer portal and to customers who have tested the portal in the pilot phase. This important project contributes to the digital evolution of the marketplace", says Günther Esser and Cees Hoekstra, Managing Directors of Veiling Rhein-Maas.

Fairtrade certification
At the beginning of June, Veiling Rhein-Maas was officially Fairtrade certified by the certification company Flocert. "This certification confirms that Veiling Rhein-Maas meets the Fairtrade standards for traders and for flowers and plants. This means that Veiling Rhein-Maas is momentarily the only flowers and plants auction that offers Fairtrade products in specialized trade quality. At the current time, roses that are produced in compliance with the Fairtrade criteria are offered at the marketplace in Straelen-Herongen."
