This week, Chrysanthemum week will be taking place in Rionegro Antioquia. From August 29 until September 2, 10 breeders will showcase their varieties throughout the region. The breeders participating are Ball SB, Selecta one, Danziger, Dümmen Orange, Dekker Chrysanthemums, Deliflor, Royal Van Zanten, Floritec, Icon Selections, and Progeny Breeding.
Chrysanthemum Week - How it all started
Chrysanthemum Week was born from a dream. "We wanted to achieve international recognition of Colombia as the world center of the Chrysanthemum, highlighting the excellent conditions that our country has to produce an extraordinary quality throughout the year," the organizers say.
With this event, they seek to include, nationally and internationally, breeders, producers, marketers, suppliers, universities, research centers, and end customers, who participate in this industry, always providing the best with a single objective: to make Chrysanthemum Week the annual center.
The idea began to be shared with friends in the sector, and year after year, our purpose grew. A few years ago, each breeder used to individually organize their showcase and variety display; but it was in 2015 that, by coincidence, Deliflor and Dümmen Orange ended up doing it in the same week. The result was so positive that they continued to hold their Open House together in week 35, then other Breeders were added, such as Danziger in 2016, Icon and Dekker in 2018, Royal Van Zanten and Floritec in 2019, followed by Progeny Breeding, Selecta One and Ball, thus achieving the participation of almost all the chrysanthemum breeders present in Colombia.
And this is how in 2019, what we know today as "Chrysanthemum Week" crystallized, an event in which PMA, Asocolflores, and Procolombia also joined, enriching it significantly. "This event was created in order to provide the crops of the American continent and international buyers with the opportunity to enjoy in the same week the union of the breeders to see the best varieties flourish. The results have been very positive and increasingly promising."

What will be on display? Several breeders have already posted some pictures and/or videos to give a peak into what they will be presenting at the show. Ball SB, for example, will present 30 varieties and made this video.
