Outsiders invited to witness Dutch greenhouse horticulture's role in energy transition

"Everyone's familiar with the tasty fruit and vegetables and lovely flowers and plants the greenhouse horticulture sector produces. But did you know that many more beautiful things grow in our greenhouses?"

This is the message Glastuinbouw Nederland has been sending out, as part of a campaign, to the general Dutch public since Wednesday. The image below - showing a gerbera morphing into an electric plug - has been popping up all over social media.

The sector is using a special public website to introduce outsiders to things like sustainable innovations that can also be found in greenhouses. Visit the website here.

This spring, Adri Bom-Lemstra Glastuinbouw's chairperson said they have wanted to 'tell the whole story, and now is, perhaps, the right time to do so.'
