Floriade Almere closed

Last Sunday, people could visit the world horticultural exhibition Floriade Expo 2022, which was themed Growing Green Cities, for the last time. A total of over 685,000 people did so. A lot, but nowhere near the 2 million needed to take out the costs. The municipality of Almere, BNR noted, would take a loss of a total of €46.6 million.

The organization itself attributes the disappointing attendance to lockdowns beforehand, which made people prioritize other pursuits, and also high inflation.

Through the Floriade Academy, more than 1,750 students were able to participate in all kinds of Floriade projects. Floriade involved 32 countries and 40 national participants.
