US (MI): Half a million bulbs to be planted in city of Holland

Tulip Time will return to the city of Holland from May 6 through May 14 in 2023. There is a lot of preparation for a festival of this size that is not counting the tulips themselves which is another big project all in itself.

Getting ready
It takes about a year total to get the tulips together for tulip time. Holland will have over a million tulips growing all around the city. The process begins in the spring when the City of Holland's Parks and Recreation Department goes around and inspects the tulips. They decide which ones stay, and which need to be replaced then place an order for bulbs in early June. The bulbs arrive in the fall and that is when the planting begins. All the bulbs will be planted by Thanksgiving so the city of Holland can have another amazing tulip festival in 2023.

Origin
The city Holland Parks and Recreation Department likes to stick to the roots of the Dutch community and order the new bulbs right from the Netherlands. The bulbs travel 3,500 miles to wow all the guests who visit Tulip Time each spring. For now it's all about getting those tulip bulbs in the ground and letting mother nature take its course for another beautiful Tulip Time in Holland, Michigan.
