'Colombian Flowers fill the Christmas spirit in the US'

"Christmas and Love flower show with Flowers of Colombia." That was the name of the event that took place on December 6 in Miami (FL), where flower growers, led by Asocolflores, showed their flowers. The objective of the show was to show the diversity, quality, and versatility of Colombian flowers and their importance in the realization of events, weddings, and all kinds of activities. The place chosen was Coral Gables, a city located in Miami-Dade County, which is characterized by its stores specializing in luxury goods, art galleries, and restaurants.

About 80 people participated among florists, importers, and organizers of weddings and events in North America. Roses, carnations, pompoms, hydrangeas, and alstroemerias, among other species, were on display, and the attendees had the opportunity to learn the new world trends in bouquets and build their own Christmas arrangements.

"We held this event in Miami with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The result couldn't have been better. Thanks to this floral show, we gathered renowned wedding organizers and event coordinators from the United States. Thus, we continue to create a very strong connection between these two sectors and their professionals that country with our flowers, in this case, for Christmas. In addition, we share their emotional power with them and consolidate a very strong relationship for 2023," said Augusto Solano, president of Asocolflores.

According to a study by the Pew Research Center, a prestigious firm in the field of trend analysis, Christmas in North America is one of the main holidays of the year, and it is estimated that 9 out of 10 Americans celebrate it. "Celebrating Christmas in the United States is a very strong tradition, and due to the multiculturalism that exists in that country, it is celebrated in different ways. We want all people, regardless of their ancestry or customs for this date, to accompany her with the majesty of the Flowers of Colombia. The US market is very large, and although it is our main buyer, the opportunities to grow even more are very interesting," Solano said.

The "Christmas and Love flower Show with Flowers of Colombia" is part of a positioning strategy for flower growers that seeks to conquer new markets, consolidate existing ones and generate relationships so that flowers are increasingly known and consumed.

This activity was added to those recently held in Japan and Korea, where the emotional power of our flowers surprised and was a trend on social networks.

"In this type of encounter, we always have a double purpose. First of all, remember that by giving them or using them as decoration in all kinds of events, a worldwide representation of love, passion, and good feelings is shared through their colors, shapes, and textures while providing emotional well-being to people. Secondly, to show that acquiring them supports the work of two hundred thousand formal employees, direct and indirect, who work in our rural areas in their production," concluded the president of Asocolflores.

It should be noted that the main destination of the "Flowers of Colombia" is the United States. In 2021, 78% of national production was exported to that country, representing 225,000 tons.

The emotional power of flowers at Christmas
Flowers have an immediate impact on happiness. This reaction is universal and occurs in all age groups, as concluded by Rutgers University in New Jersey in its "Study on the Emotional Impact of Flowers" carried out to 150 participants of different ages, ethnicities, and occupations.

According to the study, flowers have a positive long-term effect on moods, contribute to establishing intimate connections and improve the level of relationships with family and friends.

In the same vein, the University of Northern Florida, with its research "The impact of flowers on stress," supports other behavioral studies carried out by researchers from universities such as Harvard and Texas A&M, who conclude that adding flowers to indoor environments strengthens feelings, encourages creativity and even activates people's energy.

"These studies confirm that flowers increase the positive emotional reaction and that the "Duchene" smile or true smile is always present in people who receive flowers. Thus, flowers awaken the most beautiful sensations in the human being and are the ideal complement for the celebration of Christmas."
