Hicks Nurseries, Long Island's largest and premier garden center, will hold its second annual Houseplant Swap on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the nursery in Westbury. Plant swaps are events where plant enthusiasts meet in person to trade plants or cuttings and are more common in New York City or urban areas.
"We provide this forum to build community among like-minded indoor plant parents. Connecting and engaging with others is something we desperately need in our post-quarantine world," said Eleni Roselli, director of marketing for Hicks Nurseries. "During the winter months, when we spend more time indoors, it's essential to bring green to our field of vision. Besides updating your décor and cleaning the air, houseplants help refresh our mind, body, and spirit."
Participants of the plant swap are encouraged to bring up to five indoor plants to trade or give away. Set up will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m.; trading will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. A series of houseplant-related classes will be offered during the event to help beginners and experts alike enhance their knowledge.
Admission to the event is free, and attendees will receive a coupon to use on any houseplant purchase made at the nursery on the day of the event. The greenhouse at Hicks Nurseries boasts a tremendous selection of top-quality indoor plants, including many hard-to-find varieties.
