India: Flower show wraps up in PAU

The pure and flawless beauty of colorful flowers captivated the onlookers during the two-day “Dr. MS Randhawa Diamond Jubilee Flower Show and Competition,” which concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on March 2. The Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, as well as the Estate Organization, organized the show at PAU, which evoked an overwhelming response from intense flower and nature lovers, amateurs, government/semi-government institutions, and nurseries. Flower arrangements, decorated on the themes Dust to Glory, Perennial, Gracious, Mellow Yellow, Shaan-e-Punjab, etc., depicted the sensuous beauty and creativity of the participants.

In her remarks, Dr. RK Dhaliwal, Dean of the College of Agriculture, who was the chief guest, stated: “The calm and serene beauty of flowers and nature bring divine healing, jollity, and elation.” Advocating the commercial cultivation of flowers, she called upon the farmers and city dwellers to promote floriculture and landscaping, for they are pleasure-giving and economically sustainable. Later, she gave away the prizes to the winners.

Dr. Parminder Singh, Head of the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, said that flower cultivation was a viable option for diversification due to the constant use of flowers for varied purposes such as religious, marriage palaces, stage and car decorations, gardens, farmhouses, etc.
