Kjell Duijvestijn, FlowerHandlers:

"With growth in online sales, demand for processing also grows"

Direct sales and sales via all possible online platforms, such as Floriday, is a growing field for growers. This has effects on the processing of flowers and plants at the nursery because, apart from new possibilities, it also involves extra operations. Help can then offer a solution.

With that idea in mind, Kjell Duijvestijn and Sander van Veldhoven started FlowerHandlers BV three years ago. At their location at the auction in Naaldwijk, growers can store their stock in cooled conditions. From this stock, after-sales are made daily to all possible parties in Naaldwijk, Rijnsburg, and Aalsmeer, even for the foreign market. If necessary, the product can also be packaged, stickered, bound, and pelletized here.

The immediate result is that the product arrives at the (end) customer even faster, and because the logistics processes are outsourced to Flowerhandlers, growers can focus more on their own business processes. In addition, growers can offer their product for sale for longer on the day.

"Growers do not always have the manpower and time to deliver their products efficiently or the facilities to repackage products into one-off export boxes. If required, after packing, the product can also be placed in our vacuum-cooling cell through the vacuum-cooling process. This is so that the core temperature of the packaged products is reduced to around 3.5 Celsius," says Kjell. "We have the people, the knowledge, and the facilities to relieve growers of this, and we see the demand for this growth."

"We can distribute at lightning speed, to customers or the auction in Naaldwijk, but also to buyers in Aalsmeer and Rijnsburg," concludes Kjell. "Until now, we did this somewhat under the radar, and growers came to us through word of mouth. But we can handle much more. We are good at this and would like to expand."
