Climbing plant grower Van der Starre completely chemical-free

On January 1, 2023, climbing plant grower Van der Starre stopped using chemical pesticides. Since then, he has been using only plant enhancers, environmentally friendly substances, and beneficial insects to control diseases and pests. Six months after this big step, the entrepreneur and Intratuin are positive. It also turns out that beneficial insects at the company are already working on the next generation.

Tying the knot
The company had not used chemical pesticides in propagation for several years but wanted to stop relying on chemicals in cultivation as well. On January 1, 2023, the company finally took the step and opted for 100% chemical-free control.

Natural enemies
In early July, CLM organized a monitoring visit to Joost van der Starre and his head scout Gianluca CalabrĂ² from the Bee Deals project. Hans Reijngoud, green quality manager at buyer Intratuin, was also present. The insect monitoring by CLM found that natural enemies such as hoverflies (Syrphus ribesii) and ladybirds were well-represented at the company and already working on the next generation.
