In 1933, M.M. (Tinus) Verkade started supplying heating installations at the Broekpolder pumping station in Honselersdijk. The company Verwarmingsinstallatiebedrijf M. Verkade was born. At this time, Verkade was mainly working in horticulture, where energy sources changed over the years from coal to oil and eventually to natural gas.
Tinus' son Martin joined the company in 1965 and realized the new building on the Kerkstraat in Kwintsheul. Under his leadership, Martin set up the utility department, which included offices, industry, and housing. With the advent of the gas boiler, Verkade grew rapidly.
Ronald, Martin's son, took an early interest in his father's company. In 1992, he officially joined the company. From then on, Ronald focused first on expanding the utility business and then on exporting horticulture.
