Vreugdenhil Bulbs & Plants grows various bulbs and plants in a greenhouse area of around 12.5 hectares in the Netherlands. The company was founded in 1938 by Jochem Vreugdenhil Sr. He grew various types of vegetables, grapes, and tulips and was one of the first to grow Amaryllis (1960s).
Currently, the company is run by his grandson Jochem Vreugdenhil and his wife, Marjolijn Vreugdenhil. The company has grown into one of the larger companies of its kind, with around 125,000 m2 of greenhouses at three locations in the Westland region.

Cultivation is now taking place on a ground cover and concrete floors. A Stefix 135 ground cover floor sweeper was already being used at two of the three sites. "When the old sweeper at the third location stopped working last week, one new machine was needed. The choice for a third Stefix 135 was quickly made," says Ron van der Meer, team leader at Vreugdenhil Bulbs & Plants. "At the other sites, the machine works very well, and we can sweep the both ground cover and concrete floors with the machine. We ordered the machine on Wednesday, and it was at our location on Friday, so we could sweep right away."
Stefix 135 ground cover floor sweeper
The Stefix 135 is a sweeper specially developed by Steenks Service for sweeping soft or uneven surfaces, such as greenhouse cultivation floors or outdoor cultivation areas. The machine has been around since 2016, and the 200th unit was sold last year. The machine sweeps and vacuums up all the dust, dirt and germs, and seeds from the floor. 'Vreugdenhil used to use a rotating brush to sweep the ground cover, but this moves the dirt and leads to compaction of the cloth. The Stefix does not have this problem as it sweeps and vacuums. With a capacity of 1 hectare per hour, the Stefix 135 is a better solution,' says Sander Zuidgeest (co-owner of Steenks Service).
