Orchids in the spotlight on Orchid Day

All eyes were on the orchid during International Orchid Day. Ever since 2012, the 'Queen of the Plant Kingdom' has been honored annually on the first Thursday of September. This year, the day fell on September 7. International promotional activities were organized by Orchidee Nederland - the collective of growers and breeders - to celebrate the plant in all its beauty.

International promotional campaign
The International Day of the Orchid is part of the 'Beauty that Remains' promotional campaign. The aim of the multi-year campaign is to highlight the extraordinary versatility and long shelf life of orchids. A promotional campaign was set up especially for Orchid Day to put orchids in the spotlight among consumers in the biggest market countries: Germany, England, France, and the Netherlands. This includes publications in lifestyle media and daily newspapers, styling sessions with influencers, a social media campaign, and an influencer event in Hamburg.

Most popular flowering houseplant
The orchid has been the most popular flowering houseplant for decades. Millions of households worldwide are decorated with orchids, of which there are over 25,000 varieties.
