Tulip Experience voted 'Best Hidden Gem of the Netherlands'

Tulip Experience Amsterdam, part of a family-owned tulip bulb company based in Noordwijkerhout, was this week voted 'Best Hidden Gem of the Netherlands.' Online travel agency Tiqets.com presents this award in the eponymous category to a museum or attraction in several countries every year. On Wednesday, October 18, the official award ceremony will take place in Seville, where the award winners from all other countries will gather. There, it will also be announced who gets to hold the global title in this category. Votes can be cast until October 3 via this link : http://bit.ly/3PDx699

The other nominees in the Netherlands with whom the Tulip Experience competed included the STRAAT Museum Amsterdam and The Upside Down. Worldwide this year, museums and attractions in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, Portugal, and the United Arab Emirates were scrutinized.

Tulip Experience Amsterdam
This hidden gem can be found in the Bollenstreek (Bulb Region), in Noordwijkerhout, to be precise. Anyone attempting a visit now will find a regular bulb grower where the halls are filled with millions of bulbs. Only for just under eight weeks in spring, the company transforms into an experience for tourists. Here, they can learn all about the history of the tulip and the development of the bulb trade. And the immense show garden offers enthusiasts countless beautiful pictures for Instagram. This pop-up experience did not go unnoticed by the Tiqets.com jury among all the other special attractions in the Netherlands. The Pennings family is very happy and proud to receive the award: "A wonderful token of appreciation and a jewel on the crown of our work. On to the spring of 2024!"

Family business WAM Pennings
Tulip Experience Amsterdam is part of an authentic bulb company, W.A.M. Pennings, founded in 1951. For three generations, they have been growing tulip bulbs with great passion. "Tulips have always been the nursery's specialty, and with 450 different varieties we grow, we like to share the knowledge about tulip cultivation with our visitors," said the lucky winner. At Tulip Experience Amsterdam, the whole family actively helps out in the business! Granddaughter Sylvia Pennings runs the Tulip Experience together with father Simon and mother Hetty. Granddaughters Sophie, Lucy, and Alice also help out, and even great-granddaughter Lola!

Tulip Experience Amsterdam was set up in late 2019, partly due to the increasing tourism in Bollenstreek and the related pressure on the bulb fields. The story, including the history of the tulip, is told. Tulips in a variety of colors are conveniently brought together, and visitors are given the opportunity to take colorful photos without damaging the precious fields in the Bollenstreek. Afterwards, visitors may also pick a bunch of tulips to take home in the indoor picking room.
