Star Roses and Plants wins at the 2024 American Garden Rose Selections Testing Program

Star® Roses and Plants won all three awards from the 2024 American Garden Rose Selections™ (AGRS) testing program. AGRS™ recognizes roses that are easy to care for, disease-resistant, and suitable for different regions of the country.

The 2024 AGRS winners are:

  • Sweet Mademoiselle™ – a Regional Choice Winner in four regions: South Central, Southeast, Southwest, and Northwest and Fragrance Award Winner.
  • Sitting Pretty™ – a Regional Choice Winner in four regions: South Central, Southeast, Southwest, and North Central.
  • Sunset Horizon™ – a Regional Choice Winner in four regions: South Central, Southeast, Southwest, and Northwest

Sweet Mademoiselle displays excellent disease resistance for the type with large, full, double blooms that are unique in color. The color can vary with the temperatures, becoming lighter in the heat and deeper, more vibrant pink in cooler temperatures. The blooms are very fragrant.

Sitting Pretty has good disease resistance and habit. It works well in a container, and it can be used either as a shrub or a traditional rose in the landscape. The large, pink blooms have a medium, damask scent.

Sunset Horizon is an attractive Floribunda Rose with a flower color that starts bright yellow and fades to deep pink/cherry red. The flower size is quite large when fully open. It has excellent disease resistance.

All roses entered into the AGRS are tested for two years in six different geographical regions, each containing two test gardens. Additional characteristics that are evaluated include: vigor, foliage proportion, plant habit, flowering effect, rebloom habit, bloom form, aging quality of blooms, fragrance, and hardiness. In order for a variety to be granted an award, it must average at least 80 out of 100 points in at least three regions.
