NL: "Weather affects mood on the clock"

Trading at the auction reflects the seasons and the colors that go with them. Royal FloraHolland Auctioneer Luus Hooyman can really appreciate that change of seasons, but also sees that the weather in the Netherlands can affect the mood on the clock quite a bit. She also points out in the column below that it will be an exciting autumn, with the introduction of central auctioning and, of course, the organization of Trade Fair Aalsmeer, the international floriculture fair.

We had a great Indian summer this year! And also recently, the first coldest night of autumn. I love those seasons. The supply on the clock responds perfectly to it, too. What more could you want working among flowers and plants? Today's colors are yellow, orange, warm red, and purple. The products: autumn flowers (chrysanthemums, lilies), branches, grasses, berries, heather, Skimmia, pumpkins, and other evergreens.

Weather sets the mood
The color white is not in the top 10 shopping lists right now, and products with this color, therefore, lag a little behind in price. That will probably be fine, as past experience shows that the 1 November buying will focus on white flowers. The strange thing about pricing, though, is that the mood among buyers depends on the weather in the Netherlands. If it is too warm here in our little chilly country and the supply is therefore a bit higher (the nights were also too warm), the enthusiasm to buy is low. Strange, because the vast majority goes to further destinations anyway....

Exciting autumn
A new season with different products. The supply of Dutch soil from outside will decrease. The coming period will be interesting and exciting because a lot is about to happen. Central auctioning is now really around the corner. Also, on 7, 8, and 9 November, Royal FloraHolland is organizing Trade Fair Aalsmeer, an international floriculture fair with beautiful shows. You can meet suppliers, colleagues, buyers, and lovers of flowers and plants there. If you do go to the Trade Fair, stop by the clock too. It will be digital, but still interesting to watch along with the auctioneer. We will have the coffee ready.

Are you a buyer or supplier and want to know more about selling or buying through the clock?
