Recently, Kwekerij Wouters started the construction of a new greenhouse. From spring 2024, the extra hall (17,000 m2) will be used for potting up and finishing growing hanging pots full of seasonal flowers.
Currently, Kwekerij Wouters grows some 250,000 hanging pots a year. In the company's current set-up, space for this is too limited. "As a nursery, we continue to innovate and look for methods to improve our processes," explains René Wouters. "This is not only important for the cultivation process, but also for the changing delivery process. Moving the potting operations to the new hall will create space in the existing delivery hall. This allows for even more loading at shop level and avoids the need to drive all products to one of the exporters in the country. This will save us a lot of unnecessary costs and kilometers in the long run."
Double function
The new hall will have a double function: on the shop floor, all potting activities will be carried out, and upstairs in the greenhouse, the beautiful hanging plants will be peeled off. This makes efficient use of the space. The counting is done using a modern chain conveyor system: the plants hang in the air and are moved to the delivery location.
The new hall is expected to be operational by February 2024.
