After years of selecting and breeding for the shelf life properties of new cut hydrangea varieties, Perlanova Breeding has created a number of varieties that perform very well in terms of mildew and botrytis resistance.
Since 2010, the relevant codes have been tested for botrytis and mildew resistance with the aim of creating varieties that can be harvested very late in the season without causing cultivation problems. The tests took place in a cold, relatively moderately ventilated greenhouse to simulate extreme conditions as much as possible. The codes that performed best in terms of mildew and botrytis resistance were further refined.
Ultimately, four varieties were created that make it possible to harvest very late in the season without the need for supplemental heating. Especially given the current circumstances with high gas prices, the features are now very useful. "We can rightly speak of an 'energy-efficient hydrangea.' "
