In the initial quarter of the current Ethiopian fiscal year, more than USD 169.5 million was generated from the export of flowers, vegetables and fruits. According to Mekonnen Solomon, the Horticulture Export Coordinator at the Ministry of Agriculture, this performance surpassed 63.1 percent of the set plan.
The total revenue was derived from the export of 96,443 tons of flowers, vegetables, and fruits during the period. Among these, cut flowers emerged as the primary contributor, accounting for over 146.26 million USD in revenue from the export of 30,922.69 tons to the global market.
The vegetable sector also played a big role, grossing 17.2 million USD from the export of 58,340 tons. Additionally, the fruit sub-sector secured around 6.12 million USD from exporting 14,823 tons during the period.
