Tradition, marching bands, and good weather prevailed at the 135th Rose Parade in California to welcome 2024.
For months, floral artists have been working hard to create floats with thousands of roses and other flowers that will attract the judges’ attention and entertain the huge crowds that line the 5.5-mile parade on New Year’s Day.
The 2024 Sweepstakes Trophy, the coveted top prize for floral design, was awarded to the San Diego Zoo for its 55-foot float “It All Started With a Roar.” This also marks the 100th anniversary of the award.
While the San Diego Zoo’s Mascot Rex the Lion did come in with a roar, other floats depicting animals warmed the hearts of not only the public but judges, too.
Twenty-three floats won a variety of awards.
