NL: Daniël Mes (European Commission) visits a participant of the Trias Geothermal Network

In cooperation with the Dutch associations NVDE, Geothermie Nederland and HVC, KP Holland received a visit from the European Commission on Monday, May 13. The central topic: connection to the Trias geothermal project. Cabinet member Daniƫl Mes, from the team of Euro Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra, came to see the contribution that geothermal energy can offer to make greenhouse horticulture more sustainable.

Geothermal energy in practice
Leo de Vries, Managing Director KP Holland on the visit: "As a long-time participant in the Trias Geothermal Network, KP Holland likes to open its doors to these kinds of visits. Therefore, we were very honored and proud to receive the delegation and tell/show them all about the sustainability steps we are making as a company and as a floriculture sector. An inspiring visit with great prospects for a sustainable future for greenhouse horticulture!"

Sustainable goals
KP Holland states that it joined the Trias geothermal network in 2019 out of intrinsic motivation, saying: "This motivation stems from our ambition: to produce the highest quality Kalanchoe, Spathiphyllum and Curcuma in a complete sustainable way." Like any grower, KP Holland needs energy to heat the greenhouses and light the plants. "We want to do this with as little impact on the environment as possible," says Roy van der Knaap, Technical Director KP Holland. "This is why we are investing in the use of more geothermal and solar energy, wind energy and hydrogen, with the goal of growing fossil-free by 2040.The connection to the Trias geothermal network is an important pillar in this."

About KP Holland
"At our family-owned company, it is all about growing success for growers and trading partners. As flowering plant growers, we know which criteria are desirable, important and even essential for growing and selling the best products. Within Spathiphyllum, Kalanchoe and Curcuma we always go for the highest achievable. We go for plant excellence. Growing success for growers and trading partners, and long-term flowering pleasure for consumers. Together we can make the world a little greener."
