Priva partners with UC Davis to support CEA certificate program

Priva is collaborating with the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) to sponsor the UC Davis CEA Professional Concentration Program.

The UC Davis CEA Program, developed by UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education and UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), offers digital courses designed to equip individuals with the essential knowledge and skills for success in the field of controlled environment agriculture. As part of Priva's sponsorship, course participants will gain access to the Priva Academy, an online platform offering educational resources tailored to the needs of CEA professionals.

"We are thrilled to support the UC Davis CEA Program and provide participants with access to the Priva Academy," said Rob Schoones, Manager of the Priva Academy. "By combining the expertise of UC Davis with the practical insights offered by the Priva Academy, we aim to help individuals excel and thrive in the dynamic world of controlled environment agriculture."

The UC Davis CEA Program consists of four foundational courses, which can be taken individually or as a set module to earn a professional concentration. These courses include:

  • Introduction to CEA: Provides knowledge of indoor farming under controlled environment conditions, covering topics such as history, business models, technological advancements, and success factors.
  • Plant Production in Indoor Farming: Focuses on planning and implementing indoor farming operations, including plant physiology, nutrition, IPM, and environmental factors.
  • Post-Harvest Processes: Covers food safety requirements, harvesting best practices, storage, distribution, and consumer marketing strategies.

Data-Driven Growing: Equips learners with data management and statistical skills for optimizing CEA facility operations, including data systems, collection methods, and utilization for growth optimization.

"UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education is dedicated to providing cutting-edge professional development opportunities," explains Jennifer Greenier, Director of Life Sciences Workforce Development at UC Davis. "Through our partnership with Priva, we are excited to enrich our offerings and empower individuals to thrive in the rapidly evolving field of controlled environment agriculture."

In addition to UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education, the UC Davis CEA Program receives support from UC ANR and The VINE. Together, these organizations aim to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture, food, and natural resources, driving growth and advancement within the CEA industry.
