"Through our breeding programs, we are continuously refreshing our assortment"

The new company Vreugdenhil Breeding & Seeds bv develops varieties of vegetable plants and distributes seeds for the international market. These varieties enable professional horticultural companies worldwide to produce fruit vegetable plants in the potted plant and hobby garden segment. When developing the varieties, the right cultivation aspects are important. The breeding team is committed to developing new varieties with the best quality, taste and ornamental value.

"Through our breeding programs, we continuously are refreshing our assortment. In doing so, we respond to the increasing consumer demand for growing and harvesting their own produce. With the compact vegetable varieties for balcony, terrace and windowsill gardening we meet this demand," says Leon van Mil, product developer. In addition to the compact varieties, Vreugdenhil Breeding & Seeds is also developing a range for growing tomato varieties for hobby gardeners. Phytophthora and powdery mildew resistance are important components here. These varieties yield tasteful tomatoes, are productive, and resilient for outdoor cultivation due to the built-in resistances. These new varieties are expected to be added to the assortment in 2025.

Proven concept Pick-&-Joyâ
Several varieties developed by the breeding team are currently being raised for the Pick-&-Joyâ brand. Under this brand, the first compact tomato plant was sold in 2005. It has since grown into a unique and edible program with more than 20 varieties. Consumers can pick fruit from the vegetable plants immediately after purchase and enjoy delicious and healthy vegetables. Pick-&-Joyâ offers taste in the kitchen and creates an atmosphere on the balcony, terrace or garden.
