Leveraging climate control tech to optimize greenhouse functionality

The Xiamen Tangchao Horticultural Breeding Center is preparing for the 2024 Xiamen International Flower Trials, aiming to showcase top-tier flower varieties. Leveraging advanced climate control technology from Svensson, they prioritize delivering high-quality seedlings and optimizing greenhouse functionality. Recognized for their seedling quality and sustainable practices, Tangchao remains committed to collaboration for further growth and expansion.
Stepping into the Xiamen Tangchao Horticultural Breeding Center, you'll find it bustling with preparations for the upcoming '2024 Xiamen International Flower Trials'. The greenhouse bursts with vibrant flowers, both indoors and outdoors, setting the stage for an impressive showcase. Drawing over 80 domestic and international enterprises and scientific research units, this flower exhibition serves as a pivotal platform for advancing the flower industry's quality standards. Zhan Ruiqi, the General Manager of Tangchao Horticulture, shared his dedication to collaborating with leading global breeding firms to bring outstanding flower varieties to the Chinese market.

Providing high-quality seedlings for customers
The Tangchao Horticulture China Breeding Center, a collaborative effort between Xiamen Aiken Horticulture and Germany-based Benary, stands proud with its newly completed 5.5-hectare modern seedling breeding greenhouse. "Delivering top-notch, resilient seedlings to our customers is our top priority, which is why we meticulously manage the greenhouse climate throughout our production processes," explained Mr. Zhan. "For the initial phase of seedling production, we opted for Svensson's interior and exterior curtains, prioritizing optimal light conditions for seedling growth and effective cooling during the summer months."

Technical collaboration leads to success
In July 2023, Svensson organized an online technical exchange meeting with Tangchao Horticulture to optimize the functionality and advantages of their screens. Leveraging climate data analysis, Svensson's experts provided insights on maximizing screen usage. This exchange also facilitated deeper discussions, uncovering additional practical greenhouse needs.

Liu Siyang, Head of Tangchao Horticulture Breeding, explained that besides seedling and potted flower production, the Xiamen base greenhouse serves breeding purposes. "To ensure introduced flower varieties can adapt to varying climatic conditions, we require a 'flexible' climate control solution," Liu shared. "Given the diverse flower types and the necessity for precise climate management, we sought a solution offering adaptable shading and consistent light. Stability is crucial for genotype selection during breeding." Introducing Svensson's innovative PARperfect variable shading solution proved pivotal. "We implemented this solution for the first time in a new mother plant greenhouse constructed at the end of last year," Liu added.

The PARperfect variable shade solution stands out for its blend of best-in-class climate screens and tailored technical support, empowering growers to reach their greenhouse climate goals. Collaborating with Tangchao Horticulture, Svensson has supported with fine-tuning the settings to achieve ultimate shading flexibility. Liu Siyang emphasizes the importance of PAR sensors for precise, real-time crop-level control. He highlights how this data can serve as valuable reference points for future customer interactions.

Outlook for the future
Receiving the 'Seedling Bronze Award' and the 'Silver Award for Sustainable Development' from the International Growers Association AIPH in 2023 was a moment of pride for the Tangchao team. Mr. Zhan expressed his commitment to continuous improvement and plans to introduce new flower varieties to the global market. He also emphasized the importance of collaborating with suppliers like Svensson to reach our objectives.
