In the city of Kherson (Ukraine), locals continue to cultivate flowers despite daily dangers and shelling. Julia, a worker at one of the flower nurseries, recounts instances when shrapnel from Russian shells landed among the flowerpots.
She and her colleagues tend the flowers daily, often pausing to wait out bombardments.
"We'd run, hide. Wait until it quieted down, then come back out. There were times when the shelling was so intense that we had to flee home," she shares. This unpredictable rhythm defines their daily lives.
Despite the constant threat, people still seek solace in these beautiful blooms. Carnations are particularly in demand.
