A Blair, Nebraska farmer and Air Force veteran is being recognized nationally for her contributions to agriculture.

Janna Holcomb of Ferne Valley Farm LLC was named a recipient of the Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund, one of 136 veterans awarded across 38 states.

Holcomb's farm is a small, family- and veteran-owned flower farm offering u-pick blooms, CSA bouquet subscriptions, and fresh-cut flowers to nearby communities and the Omaha metro.

The program, run by the Farmer Veteran Coalition, provides $1,000 to $5,000 grants for equipment and supplies to help veterans grow their ag businesses. In total, more than $460,000 was awarded this year.

According to the 2017 USDA Census of Agriculture, over 370,000 producers nationwide identified as military veterans.
