US: Gardens America supports Memorial Day flower program at Arlington National Cemetery

Memorial Day holds a special place in the hearts of Americans as a day of remembrance and honor for the brave men and women. Who sacrificed their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. One of the most poignant traditions associated with this day is the placement of flowers at the gravesites of fallen soldiers. However, this year, the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation, an organization responsible for this meaningful act at Arlington National Cemetery, faced a significant shortage of donations. In a time of need, Gardens America, a national florist organization, stepped up to support the Memorial Day Flower program, ensuring that the fallen heroes are properly remembered and honored.

The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation, which has been placing flowers at gravesites at Arlington National Cemetery for over a decade. Found itself facing a shortage of donations for this year's Memorial Day. The organization expressed concern as the number of donations "dried up," leaving them with only 80,000 flowers to place at the gravesites instead of the goal of 310,000. This shortage threatened to diminish the impact of the tradition and the opportunity to pay tribute to the courageous individuals who gave their lives for their country.

The act of placing flowers at the graves of fallen troops dates back to 1868 when Memorial Day, originally known as "Decoration Day," was established. It was a heartfelt gesture born out of the aftermath of the Civil War, the bloodiest conflict in American history. The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation joined this tradition in 2011 and has been diligently honoring fallen service members ever since. Starting with 10,000 roses, the foundation's efforts expanded across cemeteries nationwide. Thanks to the support of donors, businesses, and dedicated volunteers.
