Found itself facing a shortage of donations for this year's Memorial Day. The organization expressed concern as the number of donations "dried up," leaving them with only 80,000 flowers to place at the gravesites instead of the goal of 310,000. This shortage threatened to diminish the impact of the tradition and the opportunity to pay tribute to the courageous individuals who gave their lives for their country.
The act of placing flowers at the graves of fallen troops dates back to 1868 when Memorial Day, originally known as "Decoration Day," was established. It was a heartfelt gesture born out of the aftermath of the Civil War, the bloodiest conflict in American history. The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation joined this tradition in 2011 and has been diligently honoring fallen service members ever since. Starting with 10,000 roses, the foundation's efforts expanded across cemeteries nationwide. Thanks to the support of donors, businesses, and dedicated volunteers.
