Aquasol Solar has been involved in the floating solar panel industry for five years. Although the beginning was challenging due to the novelty of the technology, the company has thrived in recent years. "People are now familiar with the concept," says Willem Verwoerd, co-owner of Aquasol Solar.
More than 32 basins have been fitted with solar panels, and the embankment wall system developed with EKB is also becoming more popular, Willem observes. "The experiences from earlier projects have resulted in a stable and reliable system. With partners like Profloating, Genap, Aiko, and Kenwell, we have made significant advancements, and now we have a floating system that we are proud of."
Willem mentions that the system offers many unique advantages, though he chooses not to detail them all. Instead, he highlights the most significant benefits below.

Withstanding storms
"The system's storm resistance is exceptional, thanks to the Genap anchor cloth and the design of the ProFloating floating system. The anchor cloth is heavily ballasted, and the combination of this, the panel's weight, and the unique shape of the float ensures that customers can rest easy, even during storms."
The system is designed to be flexible to a certain degree, allowing it to absorb wind forces and waves, which greatly reduces the risk of damage. "We've never experienced any damage on the projects we've completed," Willem notes. The low profile of the system further enhances its resilience. Additionally, the system maintains the right balance of flexibility, ensuring that maintenance can be performed effectively.
By giving each panel its own float, the system prevents forces from being transferred to the panel itself. This design choice helps avoid microcracks, thereby extending the panel's lifespan, Willem emphasizes.
All the materials used in the system are designed not to release any substances into the water beneath, Willem continues. "This ensures that our customers can rely on having healthy and clean water. Additionally, installing floating solar panels prevents algae growth in the water basin."
The last point Willem and his partner, Hans van Luijk, want to emphasize is Aquasol Solar's access to the latest advancements in solar panel technology, thanks to their collaboration with Aiko. "This partnership ensures not only the highest energy yield but also benefits like Partial Shading technology. This feature minimizes the impact of localized panel pollution on its overall production."
"I could go on for a while," says Willem. "It is a well-balanced whole and extremely functional."
