Colombian flowers continue to expand their reach, arriving in more than 100 countries around the world thanks to their quality and diversity. Antioquia plays a key role in this success, accounting for 27% of the country's total flower production and 16% of total flower export value, with a growth of 7% in 2024. Luisa Fernanda Pulgarín takes on a strategic role to lead sector-wide efforts and regional coordination that contribute to the competitiveness of the Colombian flower industry.
Pulgarín has already begun her tenure, actively engaging with key stakeholders across the region. She has held meetings with public security forces to help ensure the safety of flower shipments and farm operations. She has also initiated dialogues with environmental authorities to reinforce the sustainability agenda, and established contact with local mayors to build cooperative ties at the municipal level. In addition, she has participated in discussions around mobility and logistics, helping to address one of the most crucial factors for export efficiency.
With a background in public affairs, international relations and strategic communications, Luisa has built her career in designing and implementing programs with high social impact and multi-stakeholder engagement. Her leadership experience spans government institutions, private-sector organizations and civil society, positioning her as a key voice to support the sustainable growth of the sector in Antioquia. "Colombian floriculture is an engine of progress that brings formal employment, innovation and sustainability to our rural territories. I am honored to lead the Antioquia regional office at a moment when collaboration between growers, institutions and communities is crucial to ensure the continued success of our exports and the wellbeing of our people," said Luisa Fernanda Pulgarín.

The regional director will continue working to strengthen relationships with regional authorities, promote environmental and social best practices, and support flower growers in addressing logistical and trade challenges. She also leads Asocolflores' regional initiatives in Eastern Antioquia, a territory where the flower industry generates over 35,000 direct jobs in 26 municipalities, with 60% of those positions held by women, many of them heads of household.
"Behind every flower exported from Colombia lies a story of hard work, opportunity and environmental commitment," said a spokesperson for Asocolflores. "Luisa's appointment reaffirms our dedication to regional development and positions Antioquia as a global benchmark for sustainable floriculture."
Antioquia is known for producing a wide range of floral varieties including chrysanthemums, hydrangeas, lilies, asters, alstroemerias, and gerberas, which continue to delight global consumers and contribute to Colombia's reputation as a leader in flower exports.
