Further details of this year's scaled-down Battle of Flowers event in Jersey have been announced by organizers. The free event will consist of two parades, with a day parade featuring floats and entertainment taking place on Friday 8 August kicking off at 1pm followed by the evening parade on Saturday 9 August, starting at 7.30pm, which will feature illuminated floats and a fireworks grand finale.
The parades will begin from the Esplanade before heading to Liberation Square, then past the Town Hall, carrying on along the Parade before finishing where they began, organisers have revealed. There will be 20 floral floats, alongside bands, dancers and local entertainers.
A spokesperson for Jersey Battle of Flowers Ltd, the new company set up to take the event forward, said they were "focussed firmly on the road ahead", including "revitalizing the event, ensuring its sustainability, and creating even more magical moments for Jersey and our visitors".
The group has said it wants to keep the event "alive" this year ahead of its return to the traditional format next year. The full parade had to be cancelled in 2025 due to the financial troubles of the event's former organisers, who made a loss of more than £80,000 in 2023 despite a £150,000 government grant. This grant almost doubled to £270,000 for last year's event.
