Dutch Flower Group is a partner of the Fairtrade International initiative, a global movement that supports better prices, decent working conditions, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in developing countries. However, Fairtrade is more than just a label. The Fairtrade Premium is an additional sum of money that is placed into a communal fund for workers and farmers to use as they see fit to improve their social, economic, and environmental conditions.

Across the DFG companies, along with their respected customers and consumers, €2.7 million in Fairtrade Premiums was generated in 2024 alone: 37% of the Fairtrade Premium was invested in education and child protection projects; while 13% went to health initiatives for workers, their families, and local communities.

One example of a project enabled through the support of Fairtrade flowers is the Herburg Roses Special Needs School in Ethiopia. Thanks to the support of DFG's customers and their consumers who choose Fairtrade flowers, the first phase of the school was built. Today, it provides education to 42 children, grouped into classes based on their specific needs: physical, visual, hearing, or learning disabilities.
