Thrip outbreak at Dutch retail nursery eradicated

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority has issued an update on the finding of Scirtothrips aurantii and Scirtothrips dorsalis on ornamental plants in a greenhouse at a retail nursery in the Netherlands (Municipality Altena).

The two thrips species Scirtothrips aurantii and Scirtothrips dorsalis were found on different crops in early November 2024. Scirtothrips dorsalis have been found in the Netherlands before (Find Scirtothrips dorsalis 2022), but for Scirtothrips aurantii it was the first time on Dutch soil. Both species are insects with quarantine status in the EU. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) imposed measures after the findings.

This report concerns the official eradication of Scirtothrips dorsalis and Scirtothrips aurantii on ornamental plants in a greenhouse at a retail nursery in the Netherlands.
