Kenya Flower Council exploring direct access to Saudi Arabian market

On the morning of Thursday, August 14, the Kenya Flower Council (KFC) CEO, Clement Tulezi, alongside the Council's management, held a meeting with the Kenyan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Mohamed Ruwange, to explore opportunities for expanding the direct export of Kenyan flowers to the Saudi market.

Saudi Arabia, currently the fastest-growing economy in the G7, is implementing Vision 2030, a national strategy to diversify beyond oil, with tourism as a key growth pillar. This shift presents a strong alignment with the Kenyan floriculture industry, particularly for supplying premium flowers to meet growing demand from hotels, events, and tourism-related markets.

Currently, Kenyan flowers enter Saudi Arabia indirectly via Europe or through small-scale intermediaries, limiting both market penetration and brand visibility. The Embassy has expressed keen interest in collaborating with KFC to facilitate direct market access, enhance visibility of Kenyan flowers, and build strong relationships with Saudi buyers.

KFC's role in this process will be critical, as the industry's umbrella body, KFC, provides the credibility, structure, and network necessary to coordinate member participation, ensure compliance with international standards, and position Kenyan flowers competitively in new markets. Through its advocacy, certification, and marketing expertise, KFC can ensure that this market entry is strategic, sustainable, and beneficial to all members.
