A small farm near Fordingbridge has been hit by continuous heatwaves, stunting the growth of 40,000 sunflower seeds. Bicton Manor Farm, on the edge of the New Forest, has adopted an eco-friendly approach, relying solely on natural rainfall for its plants.
This year, the lack of rain meant seven out of the eight varieties of sunflowers only grew to half their expected height. This has created a unique experience for visitors, particularly young ones, who can pick their own colourful flowers.
The heatwave also affected The Patch, situated beside the A338, which includes a five-acre maize maze.
Founder Niall Smith said: "Summer sunshine is joyous, but the consequences for our crops have seen them struggle to grow and reach their full potential with the lack of rainfall."
