Last week, we shared a photo report from the Plantarium|Groen-Direkt Autumn Fair, featuring hundreds of growers' stands, Groen-Direkt's broad plant assortment, and of course, the unmissable Christmas tree show. Right at the entrance, the Wall of Fame immediately caught visitors' attention, while throughout the fair the playful "Dutch Masters" displays added a lighthearted nod to flowers and plants.

This year's Green Retail Awards were presented to Florensis, winning Best Novelty with Buddleja davidii 'Botex 009' and Best Market Innovation with the Little Rockstars® concept. Visitors also had their say: the Vitex agnus-castus Queen Bee, introduced by Bailey Nurseries, was crowned the Visitors' Favorite.

No major peaks
The atmosphere on the fair floor was positive. One exhibitor summed it up well: "Sales this year haven't shown major peaks, but thankfully no deep lows either. It's simply been a solid season." That impression matched the results at Groen-Direkt, where turnover was more than 10% higher compared to 2024. Exhibitors also praised the quality of visitors, noting many new contacts and concrete orders. The fair itself was appreciated for its smooth organization, welcoming atmosphere, ample seating, and professional catering.

From hebes to hydrangeas
It was striking to see not only many Dutch exhibitors but also several German growers taking part. Seasonal favorites made their presence felt too: the hebe, skimmia, and gaultheria clearly signaled the start of autumn, while cyclamen, hydrangeas, clematis, dahlias, and other flowering plants also took center stage. And just as last year had already shown, peat-free cultivation continues to be a hot topic, remaining a priority for growers despite the challenges in the substrate industry.
