Hülsmann Nursery invites growers to the winter fair

From November 1, 2025, until January 16, 2026, Hülsmann Baumschulen (Hülsmann Nursery) is opening its winter fair, giving trade visitors an early glimpse of the new season's assortment. From trusted classics like cherry laurel to eye-catching novelties such as compact pampas grasses, the family-run nursery is showing just how versatile green sales impulses can be. And the timing couldn't be better, as the company is heading towards its 35th anniversary next year.

The nursery's extensive range includes deciduous shrubs, ornamental bushes, grasses, panicle hydrangeas, cherry laurel, and a wide variety of hedge plants. All are available in large quantities and in multiple sizes, ranging from 5-liter to 15-liter containers.

One standout is Photinia fraseri 'Devil's Dream'. With its bright red young shoots and evergreen glossy leaves, this variety adds instant character to any garden. Equally important is Hülsmann's broad collection of grasses, including many evergreen Cortaderia and Carex varieties. These are especially valuable for early-season plantings after winter. A real highlight here is the compact pampas grass Cortaderia selloana 'Tiny Pampa'. Reaching a maximum height of just 60 cm, it is perfect for small gardens and balconies, creating striking accents even in the colder months. At Hülsmann, 'Tiny Pampa' is available in a 5-liter container.

For an attractive spring sales season, the nursery also offers a wide assortment of flowering shrubs, including special highlights such as Ribes sanguineum 'King Edward', Viburnum bodnantense 'Charles Lamont' and Cercis chinensis 'Avondale'.

'King Edward' is a peat-free grown redcurrant with intensely deep-red flower clusters in April and dark, frosted berries that are highly valuable for both insects and birds. This variety works as a solitary shrub as well as in a free-growing hedge.

The Viburnum bodnantense 'Charles Lamont' impresses with red leaf stalks and pink plume-like flower clusters that bloom from January through April. This makes the viburnum a perfect choice for adding year-round color and structure to gardens.

A more unusual choice is Cercis chinensis 'Avondale'. The Chinese redbud stands out with masses of violet-pink flowers in April and May, followed by heart-shaped leaves that turn a striking golden-brown in autumn. All three of these varieties are available at Hülsmann in 5-liter containers.

In addition, Hülsmann presents its own propagated Salix standards, available in 5- or 7.5-liter pots. These compact, space-saving eye-catchers surprise with colorful shoots, attractive foliage and excellent value for pollinators.

Hülsmann Nursery is looking forward to welcoming many visitors during the Oldenburg winter fair, taking the time for personal conversations and joining forces with the industry to spark fresh inspiration for the new season. The covered in-house exhibition offers a relaxed setting to explore the full range. "I'm especially looking forward to the guided tours with our guests, the lively exchange of ideas and of course sharing a drink together," says director John Hülsmann.
