With years of hands-on experience in both R&D and its own large production and test facilities, Queen Genetics breeds Kalanchoe varieties that are not only beautiful but also consistently high-performing - from cuttings to finished products.
To ensure each new Kalanchoe variety is ready for production, the breeder follows a structured and thorough testing process. From initial selection to store performance and home use, our varieties are evaluated step by step to meet the practical demands of modern production and everyday use.
Testing for resilience and beauty
For the first step, the breeder selects only the strongest and most resilient of genetics as the foundation for new varieties. Then, they evaluate the shapes and colors to ensure that only the brightest, most eye-catching varieties make the cut.
Following this, all varieties are tested for ethylene tolerance, in order to guarantee that the plants remain stunning in stores with completely open flowers. Then, once more, the breeder will assess the colors and shapes of the flowers in order to only have the most outstanding varieties. Then, all the flowers are tested to make sure that they will remain in good condition following a week in cold, dark and humid conditions, in a test to see if they can handle a transportation simulation.
Next is the store test, where the plant is placed in a sleeve and left without water for a week to see if it will be able to present itself in a store. Finally, there is the home test In this test, the flowers longevity and customer satisfaction come under scrutiny, as real home conditions are simulated to see if the flower is ready for the home.
If a variety passes all these tests, it is approved and ready for production.
