Weather anomalies this year led to the lowest sunflower yield in the south of the Odessa region in recent years. This data is shared by the agronomic service Tekom Agro Group, as reported by agronews.ua.
According to the director of the farm Oleksiy Loginov, in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district, about 90 percent of the planned areas have already been harvested. Three own combines are involved in the work.
"In total, in 2025, we sowed about 700 hectares with sunflower. Working with this oil crop this season was much more difficult because there was no rainfall at all in the area where our farm is located starting from May. Unfortunately, the summer drought significantly affected the development of our sunflower crops, as it mostly affected the plants during the flowering phase when the crop needed moisture for the formation of baskets and seeds. Due to these critical factors, the yield potential has significantly decreased.
Our harvest is somewhat stretched out and took place in several stages, as the sunflower hybrid, although sown at the same time, had slightly uneven moisture levels depending on the field. The threshing of this oil crop in the south is already coming to an end. Soon it will begin for our colleagues in the agroassociation in the north of the Odessa region. We have already prepared some areas for sowing winter crops, including rapeseed, winter wheat, and winter barley. On some fields, we are still conducting vertical soil tillage. Overall, I can say that the sowing campaign is currently on hold for us – we are waiting for rain," said the director of Agrofirm "Pivdenna".
