After more than a century of operations, the curtain is closing on the rich history of Degenhardt Blumenzwiebeln, one of Germany's leading flower bulb companies. As the company ceases its activities, the entire inventory – from cultivation and processing machinery to tractors and commercial vehicles – will be auctioned online via Troostwijk Auctions. The online auction is now open and will close on Thursday, October 9, 2025, starting from 6:00 PM (CET). More than 600 lots will go under the digital hammer.
The story of Degenhardt Blumenzwiebeln began over a century ago — quite literally — with a broken greenhouse window. As a child, Ernst Degenhardt accidentally kicked a soccer ball through the glass of a local nursery. To pay for the damage, he started working there, sparking a lifelong passion for horticulture.

Founded in 1905 in Schwaneberg, the company evolved from a cauliflower nursery into a major player in tulip and gladiolus cultivation. After WWII, the family relocated to Neuss, where they continued to innovate and expand. Today, the fourth generation runs the business with the same passion and care, cultivating over 25 hectares of flower bulbs for clients across Europe.
A lack of succession, age, and increasing regulatory pressures have led owners Susanne Degenhardt and Christoph Händle to make the difficult decision to close the business.
"It breaks our hearts to stop, but we hope our machines will get a second life with fellow growers in the industry," says Susanne Degenhardt.
