On Tuesday, September 23, ErfGoed hosted an open day at Kwekerij De Zuidplas in Moerkapelle, the Netherlands. Growers, water partners, and other stakeholders were given an in-depth look at the comprehensive project ErfGoed has implemented at the nursery.
In this project, ErfGoed has equipped both the existing and the new greenhouse with a total of 7.7 hectares of gerbera cultivation using the ErfGoed WaterSystem. Additionally, 4.7 hectares have been fitted with the ErfGoedFloor. This system ensures optimal use of water and nutrients, enabling growers to maximize yields sustainably.
The project is a clear example of ErfGoed's turnkey approach. This means that not only the complete water technology - including pump units and ultrafiltration - is delivered, but all groundwork and concrete work are also taken care of. This integrated approach fully relieves the grower from logistical and technical concerns.

Presentations
Knowledge sharing was at the heart of the open day. Attendees had the opportunity to attend several presentations.
Corné Verduijn (ErfGoed) guided the audience through the entire project journey, from initial plans to greenhouse implementation. He demonstrated how collaboration and a structured approach lead to innovative solutions.
Dick Breugem (Van Iperen) presented on the role of liquid fertilizers, highlighting how they already add value to cultivation and discussing future opportunities and challenges for growers. Greening the production process was emphasized as a key aspect.

Leen Weerheim and Rik Paul (Kwekerij De Zuidplas) were interviewed about their entrepreneurship and the strategic choices they make to grow their business sustainably. They explained how working with ErfGoed supports the professionalization and sustainability of their cultivation. "Thanks to ErfGoed's solutions, all water is collected and reused in a closed system. This saves costs and ensures sustainable use of water and nutrients, allowing us to better meet the demand for large-flowered gerberas," said Leen Weerheim.
Tours and networking
In addition to the presentations, visitors had the chance to see the project firsthand during a guided tour of the nursery. The afternoon concluded with a networking reception, providing ample opportunities to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and explore new collaborations.
Through this open day, ErfGoed and Kwekerij De Zuidplas showcased how innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration go hand in hand. The project contributes to future-proof gerbera cultivation, with a focus on efficient use of water and nutrients and sustainable business practices.
