More award recognition for Bubbly Wine Weigela

Bubbly Wine Weigela, a standout in the Proven Winners ColorChoice collection, has added two European awards to its record, recently recognized in Poland and Belgium.

During the 32nd edition of the Green is Life International Trade Fair for Plants, Horticultural Technology and Landscape Architecture in Warsaw, Poland (September 4–6, 2025), Bubbly Wine Weigela, submitted by Szkółki Kurowscy, captured the Gold Medal in the Plant Novelties Competition, topping 20 competing entries.

Judges commented, "Bubbly Wine stood out immediately – it's distinctly different from traditional weigelas, both in overall habit and foliage character. The plant shows exceptional vigor, forms a strong, dense structure, and offers remarkable ornamental value."

They also remarked, "Its healthy, uniquely colored leaves and generous flowering make it versatile – ideal for groundcover use, borders, or as a standalone feature. A true novelty with wide application potential."

Shortly after, at the Fête des Plantes à La Feuillerie in Celles, Belgium (September 20–21, 2025), the variety was honored as Best Plant of the Show. The La Feuillerie event brings together a curated selection of leading Belgian and international nurseries. Its 77th edition highlighted the theme "Automne Flamboyant," celebrating the transition of fall with seasonal color and botanical spectacle.

Bubbly Wine Weigela is a variegated selection of Fine Wine Weigela, known for its stable and vibrant foliage in shades of yellow, green, and burgundy. It is adaptable to full sun or partial shade and develops a compact, mounded habit, reaching 1.5–3′ in height and width. Its bloom period peaks in late spring with deep pink blossoms. The plant was bred by Jeff Good in Southeast Michigan.

These two recent awards build on Bubbly Wine Weigela's international reputation. In 2024, the variety earned a Gold Medal (Novelty category) at Plantarium in Boskoop, Netherlands — a highlight among its growing list of honors.
