US (NC): Flower shop branches out to fresh location after Helene's uprooting

Carolina Flowers: Farm and Florist in West Asheville is a growing business, in more ways than one. Owner Emily Patrick has built her business from the ground up after deciding to follow her passion.

"I started the company in 2016, just with a shovel and a couple thousand dollars in my savings account," Patrick said. "I didn't have anything, I didn't know anything, I was just 25."

One thing she did have going for her was that growing flowers was in her blood. "My family were flower farmers, eight generations of flower farmers in Pennsylvania," Patrick explains. "My mom's dad grew up on a flower farm and was raised there."

From those humble beginnings, her hard work and dedication have grown into a successful business. She had a farm located in Madison County with a storefront and studio space located in downtown Marshall. As her business continued to grow, she realized that they were outgrowing their space. So she began planning for a major expansion of both her farm and floral services in Asheville and Henderson County. However, those plans would be put to the test when Helene flooded Marshall's downtown.
