"Dried flowers are not only beautiful but also sustainable"

Lamboo Dried & Deco is Europe's market leader in sustainably cultivated and dried natural flowers. From its base in Lisse, the company supplies retailers, florists and decoration professionals around the world. What sets Lamboo apart is the full control it maintains over its entire production chain, from sowing and harvesting to drying and designing the final arrangements, combined with a strong focus on quality, innovation and sustainability.

"We manage the entire process ourselves, from seed development all the way to the finished product," says Femke van Aalst, Marketing Manager at Lamboo Dried & Deco. "It starts with breeding and selecting seeds, then continues through sowing, propagation, field cultivation and harvesting. After that, the flowers are dried using our own specialised method, dyed and finally crafted into complete products."

Sustainability as a way of working
For Lamboo, sustainability is not a trend, it is simply how the company operates. "It is woven through every step of what we do," Femke explains. "All our cultivation takes place in the Netherlands, and every product we create is 100 percent natural and free from plastic."

A great deal of handwork goes into Lamboo's products. "From harvesting with a sickle to placing each flower on drying sticks," Femke says. "It makes the end result not only special, but also honest and pure."

From flower waste to paper
A charming example of circular thinking is the 'dried flower based paper' Lamboo developed together with Groot Packaging. "We collect all our leftover material, such as small branches, flower heads and pieces of stem, and have it processed into new paper," Femke explains with enthusiasm. "Everything gets a second life. The paper is bound with natural adhesives and cut exactly to size for our packaging."

Collaboration with Greenhouse Sustainability
To back up their sustainable approach with solid data, Lamboo partnered with Greenhouse Sustainability to calculate their environmental footprint. The collaboration produced valuable insights. "Greenhouse mapped out the entire chain, identifying where the greatest impact lies and where improvements can be made," Femke says.

For the calculation, they used a complete dried bouquet, a product that includes every step in the chain: cultivation, drying, dyeing and packaging. The outcome was strikingly positive: a climate impact of only 0.53 kg CO₂-equivalents per bouquet.

For comparison, a bottle of wine represents around 1.3 kg CO₂ and a chocolate bar about 1.78 kg. "The result confirms what we already suspected," Femke says. "Our way of working really does make a difference. Still, such numbers can be hard to visualise, which is why we compare them with everyday products. That helps bring the story to life."

A new collection of flowers
Lamboo Dried & Deco continues to innovate. During the Christmas World trade fair in February 2026, the company will present its new theme, 'The Art of Nature', which brings together sustainability, natural materials and design. "We want to show people just how beautiful and unique this product really is," Femke says. "Dried flowers are timeless, sustainable and artistic, and that story deserves to be told."

The company will also introduce many new products at the fair as well as in its showroom in Lisse.

Christmas World takes place from 6 to 10 February 2026 in Frankfurt am Main.
