UK: New nursery glasshouse in Lowca set for approval at meeting

A new greenhouse for plant production could be installed at a west Cumbrian nursery if the plans are approved by Cumberland Council's planning committee next week. The committee is due to meet at the Civic Centre in Carlisle on Wednesday (November 26) when they will consider the planning application for a site at Woodland Nurseries, Stamford Hill, in Lowca.

It is being considered by councillors because the proposed structure exceeds 10,000 square metres, it is considered to be a strategic development and it is recommended that members grant full planning permission subject to conditions.

It is proposed that the glasshouse would be an extension to the existing nursery with associated drainage and landscaping. According to a planning statement the application relates to an area of land which lies to the north-west of the existing development at Woodland Nurseries.

It states: "The development adjoins further agricultural land to the west and north, to the east it will join to an existing glasshouse, and to the south it adjoins further agricultural land surrounding the building, and the site access which is also a public footpath."
