It was her search for a new location that led Hayley Coxsedge to a long-established Aurora business. The local florist had launched Petal Me Sugar Flowers in 2021, running it on her own for four years, riding the highs and the lows.
Having long worked as a floral designer, Coxsedge had decided it was time to open her own shop. Aurora provided the perfect setting with a market that she determined had space for another flower location. She chose a beautiful spot on Orchard Heights that overlooked a pretty courtyard.
"I chose that unit because it had front, back door, the basement and lots of windows. The courtyard was cute when we picked it," she says. "We just took down all the walls and made it open space. We persisted and we did pretty well, keeping it rolling."
After three years, the lease renewal came with a substantial increase in rent. So she set out in search of another spot. And just at that time, Aurora Greenhouse, one of Aurora's oldest businesses, came up for sale. Aurora Greenhouse was established in 1911 by the Nisbet family and has seen several changes over the years. Going in with her parents, Coxsedge bought that business and all its assets, moving into 225 Industrial Parkway in July, expanding to 1,500 square feet of store space from the 950 square feet she had been operating.
