With the HortiFootprint Calculator from MPS, growers gain clear insight into their environmental impact. This insight helps guide sustainability plans. To accelerate sustainability in Dutch floriculture, Rabobank will introduce a voucher programme on 1 December 2025 that reimburses part of the cost of a footprint calculation for business customers in greenhouse ornamental horticulture. By submitting this voucher to Rabobank and working with the HortiFootprint Calculator, growers are prepared for the increasing demand for transparency throughout the supply chain.
The horticultural sector faces major sustainability challenges. Trade, retail and supply chain partners increasingly request substantiated sustainability information, including a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). This is the analysis that shows the complete environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle. Many growers experience a barrier to carrying out this calculation, although reliable emissions data is increasingly important to be able to supply to market demand. This is why Rabobank, in collaboration with MPS, is launching a targeted solution. A one time voucher of €24 for business Rabobank customers operating in floriculture. The voucher reimburses part of the costs of a footprint calculation via the HortiFootprint Calculator of MPS and LetsGrow.com. This gives growers accessible insight and concrete tools to take further steps towards sustainability.
Foundation for future proof floriculture
Jos Heubers, product manager of the HortiFootprint Calculator at MPS, emphasises that footprinting is more than a future obligation. The HortiFootprint Calculator shows the environmental impact of a product across sixteen indicators and eight life stages. From CO₂ emissions to toxicity and from resource use to packaging. Insight forms the basis for growers to take sustainability measures, communicate within the supply chain and comply with future legislation. Many of the necessary data are already registered by growers for the certification standard MPS ABC, which makes it possible to perform a complete footprint calculation quickly and easily. Thanks to the LCA calculation by MPS and the integration with the LetsGrow.com dashboard, growers gain insight into their environmental impact within minutes. Heubers about this insight. It is data that truly delivers something. It offers targeted improvement opportunities, comparison with peers and a foundation for substantiating sustainability claims. It helps the floriculture sector to meet the demands of today and be prepared for the requirements of tomorrow. Footprinting makes sustainability concrete, measurable and open for discussion.
Insight becomes necessity
Pressure on the sector increases due to CSRD legislation, initiatives such as SBTi and rising energy costs. Rabobank therefore sees footprinting as a logical step. Without insight there is no direction and without direction there is no acceleration, says Arne Bac, sector manager at Rabobank. With this voucher programme, growers can strengthen their position and take the next step in future proof business operations.
How the voucher works
The voucher programme is available to business Rabobank customers in floriculture. After registration with their Rabobank account manager, the grower receives a voucher that can be submitted to MPS. The grower and MPS then jointly go through the process of data collection, calculation and insight. Both the grower and Rabobank gain access to the results.
