With the release of a short social media video this week, Huisman Screen Systems shows in just half a minute what growers can expect when purchasing insect netting cassettes.
Keeping harmful insects out while retaining beneficial insects is a challenge that requires quick action now and certainly in the near future — especially when crop performance is at risk. In recent months, Huisman has equipped many greenhouse roofs with its insect netting systems: both cassettes mounted between the vent and the greenhouse roof, and the company's own unique system that fits around the vent. Sales manager Ronald explains the added advantages of this second option below.
As the range of available chemical solutions continues to shrink, approvals for alternatives remain limited, results disappoint, and pest-control costs per square meter increase, growers are turning more often to prevention. In the coming years, insect netting systems will therefore become essential for achieving desired crop results. Various media reports confirm this development.

Two systems
Ronald: "Huisman Screen Systems has been leading the way for more than 30 years when it comes to inventive and unique insect netting systems. Our well-known 'marquee' system, which we were the first to install on greenhouse vents, is still widely recognized. From this system, we have developed new louver-type netting systems suitable for both Venlo and wide-span greenhouses." Huisman offers two installation options for roof-mounted netting cassettes: between the vent and the greenhouse structure, or around the vent.
The system that fits around the vent offers several key advantages, Ronald explains. Less drilling and fastening is needed on the vent. The unique profile slides around the vent and is fixed to the hinge at the ridge, ensuring stability and durability.
A cover around the vent prevents condensation from entering and provides better energy sealing. It also preserves the original vent rubbers. Finally, when installing the Huisman system around the vent, the vent mechanism does not need to be recalibrated.
Adjusted wire thicknesses
Ronald continues: "Innovation is in our DNA; we never stand still. For example, we are developing adjusted wire thicknesses for each mesh size to reduce ventilation loss, while still ensuring the long lifespan our systems are known for. Other optimizations will follow soon, and we hope to share more during HortiContact on February 25 and 26, 2026."
Of course, growers don't need to wait until late February 2026 for advice or more in-depth information about insect netting systems. Anyone who wants to learn more now can contact Ronald Kloppenburg at Huisman Screen Systems or visit the company's website.
