Greenhouse builder speaks about success abroad

"It is still cheaper for the customer to have it shipped from the Netherlands"

Bringing Dutch greenhouse-building innovation to growers around the world was the topic when Dalsem CEO Frank van der Gelt spoke in the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant (link in Dutch). Today, between 80 and 100 percent of the company's revenue comes from projects outside the Netherlands. One of their current projects is in Virginia, where they are constructing a 26-hectare greenhouse that will soon operate under the name Pluck'd Greenhouse.

The newspaper also asked the CEO about the impact of US import tariffs. According to Van der Gelt, the tariffs the United States imposes are manageable. He says that although the official rate for steel and aluminum is 50 percent, the actual costs end up being much lower. "For our clients, it is still cheaper to have the materials shipped from the Netherlands and assemble the structure in the US, rather than sourcing everything locally," he explained.
