Turkey: Ornamental plant growers will have limited access to water as part of the Drought Mitigation Commission

Growers of ornamental plants in Korukoy have been impacted by the emergency action plan implemented by the Drought Mitigation Commission, under the leadership of Yalova Governor Dr. Hulya Kaya. Growers will have water three days a week, with the remaining four days being cut off. After the decisions, Oktay Akgun, the owner of Akgun Florist, remarked, "It has been determined that ornamental plant growers in Korukoy will receive water on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. On Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, water will be shut off. The provided water will be used solely for irrigation."

Oktay Akgun assessed the decision by saying, "Given that we are in the winter months, our growers will not suffer significant negative effects from the water cuts. However, if it does not snow during winter, our producers will encounter difficulties in the spring." Akgun further remarked, "We would like to convey our heartfelt thanks to Yalova Provincial Director of Agriculture Mustafa Ilmec and Yalova Chamber of Agriculture President Saban Besli for their assistance in promptly addressing the water crisis, ensuring that Korukoy producers have water and their plants remain hydrated."

Mustafa Ilmec, the Yalova Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, held a meeting with ornamental plant growers in Korukoy on Tuesday. In the meeting, Ilmec held discussions with the growers, who are going through tough times because of the water crisis. He mentioned that significant endeavors are underway to guarantee that agricultural production remains unaffected by the water cuts to be enforced across the province. Ilmec evaluated the process after hearing the growers' requests and suggestions.
