Celebrating 40 years of Gartneriet Lundager

In 2025, Gartneriet Lundager marks its 40th anniversary, reflecting four decades of development and innovation in the ornamental plant sector. Owner Ove Lundager looks back on the company's beginnings: "When I started working as a young gardener after finishing school and later completed my horticultural training, I had no idea where this journey would lead," he says.

The company's history began in 1985, when Ove Lundager acquired his first nursery in Ulfborg, in western Denmark. With a small team, a strong commitment to the profession and a clear focus on quality, the foundations of the business were laid.

After 19 years in Ulfborg, during which pot plant production and a garden centre were central activities, the company made a strategic decision in 2003 to relocate to Odense. This move marked a clear shift in focus, allowing Gartneriet Lundager to concentrate fully on the production of green indoor plants.

Changing course
In 2004, the company took a major step by moving all production to Odense. This created opportunities to streamline processes, further professionalise working methods and significantly expand production capacity. Gartneriet Lundager now produces millions of green potted plants each year, across six specialised nurseries, supplying both the Danish market and international customers.

Added value
In addition to plant production, Lundager introduced its own Added Value product line in 2017. This ceramic collection has since become fully integrated into the company's visual identity and serves as a logical, commercially complementary extension of the plant assortment. It enables customers to purchase complete product and presentation solutions.

In-house breeding
With the establishment of Lundager Breeding, the company has built a strong global position. Through the development of new varieties in crops including Peperomia, Tradescantia and Begonia, as well as several other plant groups, Lundager has become an international licensing player. Its proprietary genetics and varieties are licensed to growers worldwide.

Past, present, and future
While the company continues to build on 40 years of experience, investment and development, its core values remain unchanged: integrity, quality and innovation. "We are proud of what we have achieved so far, but we are just as enthusiastic about the future," says Ove Lundager. "We will continue to focus on sustainable production, strong customer relationships, and the development of new concepts and varieties that add value for customers and consumers around the world."
